In baseball or softball, a 'foul ball' is a batted ball that lands outside the designated fair territory, typically outside the first or third base lines, before passing first or third base, or that settles or is touched in foul territory. It is not counted as a hit and usually counts as a strike unless the batter already has two strikes.
